Welcome to my homepage! I am Hyesun Choung, Assistant Professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. I study how people perceive, trust, and interact with artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. My research examines the psychological, social, and ethical factors that shape trust in AI, with the goal of informing the design of transparent, fair, and human-centered technologies.
My work spans a range of contexts, including AI-generated content, algorithmic decision-making, facial recognition, health communication, and digital media. I am particularly interested in understanding how AI influences human judgment, communication, and well-being, as well as how technological systems can better support individuals and society. More recently, my research has explored AI in health information seeking, conversational AI for older adults, and the role of AI in reducing social isolation and promoting psychological well-being.
My work has appeared in journals including Computers in Human Behavior, International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, Public Understanding of Science, and Health Communication. Across these projects, I seek to advance both theory and practice by generating evidence that supports the development of trustworthy, responsible, and human-centered AI.
Thank you for visiting my site, and I invite you to explore my publications and ongoing projects!
